The Great Alaskan Adventure - Day 6

July 15 2013 - Anchorage

Today Jack started hockey camp so John, Andy and I are doing things around Anchorage.

Our first stop today was at the Alaska Aviation Museum.  They boys enjoyed it - they had several planes on display and lots of very cool old photos.  Right outside the museum was the float plane "airport".  It was very cool to see the planes taking off and landing in the water.  I am going to try and get back there this week to take some pictures.

After the Aviation Museum we headed over to Alaska Wild Berry Products.  We have received several gifts in the past from here and thought we would check it out.   The first thing that you see when you walk in the door is the Worlds Largest Chocolate Fall - Andy was very happy, although he was a bit disappointed he couldn't dip marshmallows in it!

They also had a cool display of all the wild berries that grow in Alaska.

They also had a 40 ft. candy counter and gift shop.   Outside they had the famous 20 foot tall Inukshuk Rock Man - a tribute to ancient arctic travelers.

After picking up Jack we ventured in to downtown Anchorage and of course we found the offices of the ECHL Alaska Aces, oh and look - they have a store!   Souvenirs were purchased of course!

We went to dinner at Hula Hands - and authentic Hawaiian hole in the wall - the food was just as good as we had in Hawaii!  You can't beat sticky rice and macaroni salad!

After dinner Frank and Angel took us down to Earthquake Park - in 1964 a huge earthquake hit Alaska and sent 75 homes cascading down the hillside 2000 ft to the water below.  We walked along the "beach", collected rocks and skipped stones.   Oh and did I mention it is near the airport?  You can get an amazing underneath view of the airplanes taking off!
