Andy's Birthday Party

October 21st, 2012

Due to our hockey schedule we weren't able to have Andy's party until the 21st of October.Andy decided he wanted to have a party at home with a Minecraft theme.  Unfortunately there are no mass produced Minecraft party supplies so we had to come up with everything on our own.  We had 6 kids from school and the neighborhood over.  They hung out in the basement and played knee hockey, Minecraft and Xbox.  We ventured outside for a pinata that Mom over filled so it fell off the holder.  We let the older kids whack it and it still wouldn't open so Dad ripped it open and tossed the candy into the air for the kids.   Special thanks to our neighbor Tammy who made Andy's cake.  It was delicious!

Happy 9th Birthday Monkey!

October 6th, 2012

Yea!  It's Andy's ninth birthday!  Due to our hockey schedule his party is not for a few weeks, but we celebrated with friends and "family" today.

For Andy, there is no better way to start his day then a visit with Ms. Cyndi - so what a treat to see her on his birthday!!

Jack had a game in Columbia, MD, so after Andy's appointment we headed up there - unfortunately it was a loss for the Raiders, but a close game at 3-2.  After the game we headed home as our good friends, Juan, Frannie and Annie Bernal were coming over for dinner.  Andy choose Frogmore Stew and Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Cheesecake.

We made the cheesecake on Thursday...

Crushing Nila Wafers for the crust

That's a lot of PB cups!

Dinner!

National Walk to School Day

October 3rd, 2012

Today is National Walk to School Day!

Unfortunately due to the fact that we live in a very rural community the boys can't walk to school.  Some of the roads between our house and school are four lane roads and don't have sidewalks.  So the PTO at Andy's school organized "Walking Buses".  They set up bus stops along a route that would allow the kids to only have to cross one major road and thanks the the help of the Fauquier County Sheriffs Dept., we were able to do that safely.  I was a volunteer bus driver and our route started at the Post Office, being the furthest away - we got to pick everyone else up along the route.  By the time we got to school we must have had 150 kids walking behind us - it was awesome!

Caps Shootout

September 29th, 2012

Every year usually in late summer the Washington Capitals hold the Washington Capitals Youth Hockey Shootout Competition.

They invite players and goalies from Virginia and Maryland to compete.   Jack made it thru the first round on September 7th with 11 goals in 23 shots.  The finals were held on September 29th at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex.  In the Virginia Pee Wee Division there were 6 goalies and 12 shooters.  Each shooter shot on each goalie 3 times.  At the end of the day, Jack was tied for first place with his friend and Ashburn Extreme player Max Judson.  Unfortunately, Max won by one goal - but boy did we have fun!
