Adventures in Lusterville!: Road trip to Alpena, MI

Back to the Northern Lights Arena for another day of camp. Andy is really enjoying camp and is learning a lot and making friends!

In case you are curious what we do while he is at camp...

We sit around on our computers :) And go out to lunch! After lunch today, Mom and I went exploring in Downtown Alpena and found a wonderful boutique called Soaps and Such. Kelly, the owner makes all her own products. We bought all kinds of fun and natural products.

After camp, we took Andy back Downtown to Downtown Scoops - a heavenly ice cream shop. We may have to go back everyday this week to try all the delicious flavors - like carrot cake!

From there we headed North to Presque Isle - they have two lighthouses there, the old lighthouse which is one of the oldest surviving lighthouses in Michigan. It was built in 1840 and operated until 1871. It is rumored the lighthouse is haunted by a former lighthouse keeper. Andy was super excited to climb to the top, until he got up there! You can see from the picture below - he is holding onto the rail AND the door frame!

One mile north is the new lighthouse built in 1870. I bravely climbed the 130 steps to the top to enjoy the spectacular view. They say sometimes you can see Canada from the top.

We headed back to Alpena to go to the marina. You can walk out on the break water to get a view of the Alpena lighthouse.

Walking back from the lighthouse I overheard a women talking to a friend about Burton's out on Long Lake. I Googled when we got back to the car and saw it was a restaurant - we thought we would give it a try for dinner.
